The Regina Bull Sale is right around the corner, March 10th and 11th at Evraz Place Regina, and we are offering three of our top bulls. OVHF have a yearling bull OVHF Walsh 3Y which was part of the 2011 Champion Bull pen at Agribition. This grandson of Harvie Raftsman offers alot of thickness and a proven pedigree. SSAL has two Two Year Olds on offer. The first is SSAL XID 4X who his a son of Harvie Traveler and was our herdsire in 2011. We are expecting calves by him by sale day. The second is SSAL Ironman 6X. This son of KJ Investor is out of our top cow and also is a half brother to OVHF CK 69T Wages 7W which sold in last year's Regina Bull Sale to Jason, Jill and Paul Kress. They love the calves and we expect the very same from this rugged meat machine.

The Regina Bull Sale catalogue will be online very soon. In the meantime if you would like more information or would like to see the bulls feel free to call or to e-mail us. All of their mothers will be calving in the next month or so and we would be happy to show you our cowherd in production.

Check in very soon for the RBS link and other information on the bulls.

• Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our Hereford friends and buyers. It has been a very memorable year for all of us! We had a great bull sale in Regina early this year which set the tone for the rest of our bull sales.

Thank you once again to all our buyers. We look forward to seeing and hearing about your calf crops! We then had the arrival of Tinley Mary which was very exciting. She is growing up really fast as you can see from her posted xmas picture. We then prepared for Bonanza in July which was a great event for all of us. Curtis, Danika and I headed to Ottawa in October to visit our family (see the posted picture). We capped it off with the Champion Pen of Bulls at Agribition with our OVHF pen.

Mom and Dad just came back from having Christmas with Jill, Cole and Tinley recently. Dad took part in the cattle drive (see Dad on the white horse) and had fun despite the cold weather. It looks like we are going to have a brown Christmas here in SK this year! We have been having some great weather and we will gladly take it! We all had a busy year and we are looking forward to our calving season coming up at the end of January!

Feel free to drop in over the holidays for some xmas cheer and to see our bull pen entries for the Regina Bull Show and Sale in March. From all of us at OVHF and SSAL we wish everyone a great holiday season and a great 2012!

• OVHF Wins Champion Bull Pen at the 2011 CWA!

The OVHF bull pen in the 2011 CWA Bull Pen Alley show was crowned Champion Herefords. OVHF also exhibited OVHF Elliot, a son of Harvie Dan T-Bone, in the open show and did very well in a tough class. SSAL's bull pen also showed well and we enjoyed talking to everyone who stopped by to look at all of our bulls.

We currently have some the bull pen alley bull calves for sale. Feel free to e-mail, call or drop in to see them.

• We are entered in the CWA Bull Pen Alley 2011

OVHF and Six South Acres Ltd are headed to the CWA. Drop by Bull Pen Alley in the Commercial barn to see our entries for the 2011 pen of 3 bulls. OVHF have OVHF 7Y and OVHF 3Y which are sons of OVHF Walsh (RaftsmanXHarvie Ms Green) as well as OVHF 2Y a son of Harvie Traveler.

Six South Acres Ltd are exhibiting SSAL 11Y (son of Harvie Ricochet), SSAL 1Y (son of OVHF Warden a Raftsman son who is currently owned by Triple H Farms) and SSAL 4Y (son of Harvie Tailor Made). We are very excited to take part in Bull Pen Alley on Friday November 25th at 9am.

• Celebration!

On Saturday October 29th we celebrated Danika's 2nd birthday. After a great seafood feast, Danika enjoyed her ice cream cake with friends and family.

• Visit to Ottawa over Thanksgiving!

Danika, Curtis and I visited Ottawa over the Thanksgiving break. The highlight of the trip was visiting my Nana Mary McNeely and for Danika to meet her great-grandmother for the first time. We enjoyed our visit with Nana even if it was too short. Danika loved meeting Nana and held her hand while we talked. We are so very lucky to have Uncle Laurent, Aunt Francine and cousin Patrick LeBlanc to look after us when we visit. We took a picture of Danika on the little Holstein cow in my aunt's backyard. That is the same cow that Pat, Jill and I had our picture taken with so many years ago.

Danika was very curious about the Maple leaves around her and loved playing with them. We had a tour of my hometown of Navan and the Fifty Horse Hitch monument at our local Ag Society. We toured our old farm and also had a chance to see the Perrault Winery as well as the Holstein barn once again. Parliament Hill was beautiful and we had fun walking around the monuments (Nelly McClung of course for D and me) as well as picking flowers. Danika is a true farm girl since she was amazed by the dirt! She was picking some flowers when the RCMP officer approached her. She was not sure what to think of him.

Our tour also took us to Rockliff Park which is where that as young student we would stop for a lunch break. It brought back some great memories and Danika had fun with the leaves also. We went to the Experimental Farm one day to see all the animals and equipment that are housed in the heart of Ottawa. We enjoyed the sprawling gardens and beautiful temperatures that we had during our stay. It was a fantastic trip and we had fun seeing all of my family once again!

Thanks
Kerry

• Canadian cattle allowed in Vietnam once again!

This past Sunday while Frank and Andree visited Jill, Tinley and Cole they were able to take in an interview done by Jill and Cole for CTV Calgary. The country of Vietnam had once again opened it's doors to Canadian livestock. Live cattle can now be sold which will definitely help out our exports in the agricultural sector. This is another positive step towards making our cattle farms more prosperous and hopefully attracting more young people to our industry. Click here to see the interview. Enjoy!
  • Congratulations Meghan, Karlie, Kyra and Justin on a great Bonanza!

A big congratulations goes out to Meghan Black from New Brunswick, Karlie McKim from Sask, Kyra McConnell and Justin McLaughlin from Ontario on a fantastic 2011 Bonanza in Saskatoon this past week. Meghan showed OVHF 167U Ms Carlson 8X and won second in her division class, Karlie showed SSAL Mercedes 14X and received a fourth in her division, Kyra exhibited Harvie Ms Green 119X and was second in her division and Justin exhibited OVHF 167U Duchess 2X and was first in his division class. All our our juniors did a fantastic job and also placed very well in showmanship and grooming classes. Thank you to our Juniors for looking after our heifers so well and being so very enthusiastic about our breed. I also want to Thank my extra helpers, Josie and Zane Short, who were awesome and did so very well showing also!
Please check out pictures of all our juniors www.grantspix.com

• Busy July!

At the beginning of July, Danika, Mom and I set out to visit Jill, Cole
and Tinley for a week. We had some great weather as we enjoyed
relaxing, shopping and gardening. Uncle Cole bought Danika a small pool
to play in which was a hit! We look forward to seeing Tinley in it with
her next year! While we were having fun spending time with Tinley,
Curtis and Frank were wrapping up our 2011 Hay crop. We even had fun
taking the girls to DQ even though it was more than eventful! Shortly
after our return home to SK, Curtis and I headed out to Nipawin to do
some fishing with some friends. We were very excited to include a
cattle tour in our mini-vacation. Triple H Farms from Middle Lake SK
(Lyal, Michele, Taryn, Miranda, Morgan & Makenna Heidecker) graciously
toured us around to see their showstring for Bonanza as well as their
cowherd. They served us a wonderful lunch which included fresh snap
peas that Makenna had picked from the garden ( Curtis and I ate our
lion's share!). Triple H puchased OVHF Warden (a Raftsman son) from us
at the Regina Bull Sale this past Spring. We enjoyed seeing this
Herdsire with a great group of cows who obviously also has a great
home. In the pictures that we have posted you can see the flooding that
has affected their pastures. The cows are standing in waist high water
which is normally pasture. Many of their roads have been washed out and
have needed to be rebuilt. The 2011 flooding of our province will not
be soon forgotten. After leaving our Hereford friends we attempted to
relax and catch some fish. We came home without the BIG ONE being
caught but we certainly had many new adventures fishing. Upon our
return we quickly got to work on the Bonanza heifers since it was only
a week away.

• Beef-A-Rama!

At the end of June we had the opportunity to attend the first annual
Beef-A-Rama hosted by Rob and Dawn O'Connor. Andree was busy judging
the speeches and art classes while I judged the showmanship classes.
The group of Junior Hereford enthusiasts had a great time and learned
alot from attending the event. Curtis, Frank and Danika kept busy
riding on the utility vehicle that was donated for the day. OVHF
sponsored the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Female prizes.
Congratulations goes out to Emma Lees for winning Grand Champion and to
Alexis DeCorby for winning the Reserve Female. We truly had a great day
and we look forward to next year's Beef-A-Rama!

Harvie Ronda 41W

• Pasture Stars at OVHF Alberta

Harvie Ronda 41W ( Traveler 2 yr old daughter) with her Harvie Walk Hard daughter at side. This pair is co-owned with Vern Featherstone, Perdue Saskatchewan. Feel free to drop by and visit Jill, Cole and Tinley in Olds Alberta to view this future Donor Dam.

• NEW ARRIVAL!! Welcome Tinley Mary Harvie!

We are so excited to announce that the newest member of our family has arrived! Tinley Mary Harvie arrived Wednesday May 25th weighing 6lbs 11oz! Jill and Tinley are doing wonderful. Grandma McNeely reports that she is a cute as a button sporting beautiful red hair! Congratulations to Jill and Cole! We look forward to spending some time together very soon! I will post pictures as they become available very shortly!

With this exciting news I felt that I had neglected to blog about what is going on at the farms. As Jill and Cole prepared for the arrival of their new bundle of joy they were also busy getting the cattle out to pasture as well as flushing their donor cows. Frank and Andree have been busy fencing, getting cows out to pasture and Frank has been helping us seed. Seeding has progressed at a good speed and we are very lucky considering how wet the conditions in the southern part of our province are. The last rain has set us back for a week but we hope to get things wrapped up soon. The cattle are finally out to pasture after waiting for our roads to dry up! We are working on four yearling heifers for Bonanza and we look forward to a great week at the end of July with all of our Hereford friends. We even anticipate that Jill, Cole and Tinley may join us there also!

• Happy New Year!

A very Happy New Year to all our friends and family! We had a wonderful xmas filled with lots of gifts from Santa, great food and good company! Frank and Andree spent xmas with Jill and Cole in Alberta while Curtis, Kerry and Danika celebrated in SK. Jill and Cole treated Mom and Dad to a sleigh ride which they really enjoyed. The four of them had a wonderful time and even had an opportunity to get some nice pictures with Cole's new camera! We had alot to celebrate and are looking forward to the arrival of the McNeely-Harvie baby in June! Curtis, Kerry and Danika hosted xmas dinner for the Gaillard side this year. We had loads of food, refreshments and rocked out to Guitar Hero to the wee hours of the night. Once Mom and Dad returned from AB (nice to swap chore duties!) the three of us headed to Radium BC for a week with friends.

We now have all returned to our routine and we are gearing up for calving. Mom, Dad, Jill and Cole are in Denver this week and will have a great time seeing friends from all over the world. I have posted some various pics from xmas and as you can see Santa was not a real big hit with Danika but she did like her gifts. We already have a cattle fitter in the making with Danika deciding to fluff her rocking bulls tail that Jill and Cole gave her! We wish everyone a great 2011 and the best of luck with their new calf crop!
